M.A.R.S. Fun Fact

Did You Know...
M.A.R.S. was founded in May of 2009 by two friends in their 20's? M.A.R.S. is the ONLY animal rescue organization to be founded and completely operated and run by college-age team members, and proud of it!

Because of this fact, the M.A.R.S. Team must work extra hard and strive towards excellence to establish themselves as one of the leading rescues in adopter education animal care, and health screening/'shelter medicine' (a broad term used to define the medical practices used to treat animals from high risk backgrounds, such as those rescued from animal control facilities).
All of the M.A.R.S. Team members must undergo training in advanced animal care (infectious diseases, uses and dosage of animal medications, vaccination protocol, etc), and have a working knowledge of various canine, feline and equine diseases & treatment. Team members' knowledge is routinely tested so that we can continue to provide the best care for the animals in our program, and so that our team may provide this knowledge to other rescues and adopters.

Having a team made up of young people has presented challenges by causing discrimination from other groups (even ones that incorporated after us), and that makes us work even harder!
Your age has nothing to do with the amount of knowledge you can possess- if you are willing to learn, nothing should stand in your way. The M.A.R.S. Team consists of hard-working, dedicated young members that put the well-being of the animals above all else, and we could not ask for any more in a rescue team! We are proud to offer younger members of the community with the opportunity to help animals in need, and learn a lot along the way.

Our team is proud to have so many young people participating in the care of our animals, and will continue to maintain a high standard of care, and show the rescue community that young people can make a BIG
difference. All of our procedures and protocol have been designed and put into action by young members of our team in the hopes of having a BIG impact on the animals in our region. We hope that by developing detailed medical/quarantine procedures for shelters that other rescues will adopt our methods to improve the health and welfare of animals across the nation.

Our horse training has been praised by members of our community, and in the horse training field. Our training techniques were developed by the M.A.R.S. Team members and are very unique (Click HERE to read more about our equine program).
