Meet Waylon!
Waylon is a 10 month old Bluetick Coonhound looking for a loving home. He was purchased by a family that wanted a hunting dog, but did not realize how much work a puppy would be, and turned him in to a humane society in southern Illinois, were he was then transferred to us to find him a home that can give him the love and attention he needs. Waylon is currently in foster care. He is a typical Hound, and "follows his nose wherever it goes". He gets along well with other dogs, is curious about cats, and wants to sniff them and follow them around, but is good with them. He has been around kids and does very well. He loves belly rubs and to have his back scratched. He is started on house training and crate training in his foster home, but his new family should be prepared to continue working with him on this. He walks well on a leash with very little pulling. He does know a few commands (sit, down and shake) and knows to go to his crate for meals (due to the foster home having other dogs, all are fed separately) and to go to bed at night. Waylon does have some resource guarding with food and special treats, so we do recommend feeding him separately from other pets, but plays tug of war with rope toys with the other dogs just fine. He will also sit in a group of other pets and take treats nicely with others around.
Waylon is an overall easy going guy, and would be ideal for active families that enjoy walking, hiking and playing at the park.
