In the photo- Hank (left) and Mac (right)

After a few rides with our horse trainer, we strongly believe that Mac has probably been ridden before, but not for a very long time. He needs some work with the bit, but does stand for saddling and mounting. He will eventually make a really nice trail horse, but will need more training. He would be well-suited for an advanced rider.

Mac is a ~13-14 year old GAITED Quarter horse gelding who is looking for a new home. He was found running loose off a highway in southern IL with Hank. His owner was located by animal control, who then explained that he did not want the horses anymore. Mac and Hank were transferred to us by animal control so we could help find them loving homes. We are currently in the process of evaluating them for adoption.

Mac is very intelligent and social. He is curious and will follow you around the pasture just to see what you are up to. We have started his groundwork, and asking him to stand with a level or low head, but it does not appear he has been trained to lunge. The owner stated that he had ridden Mac, but we have not confirmed that he is trained under saddle yet, but hope to find out soon enough. He does gait, but will need some work to smooth it out. Mac is very trusting, and stands nicely for grooming. He will pick up his feet nicely. Mac gets along very well with other horses and ponies.

If you are interested in adopting Mac, please fill out an online adoption application for him. Please note that horses are located in Murphysboro, IL, and adopters must be willing to travel to see a horse.
