Meet Baby!
Baby has a sweet face, and a sad story. Her previous owner was elderly, and had to go into a nursing home. Unfortunately, none of the family members were able to (or wanted to) take her in, so they dropped her off at an animal control facility with a very high euthanasia rate. With her days being counted, she sat scared and alone in a cage, waiting to see a familiar face. That familiar face never showed up. While walking through the facility, our two transport coordinators came upon Baby. They sat with her for a minute and could not leave without her. The kennel door opened, and she jumped into their arms.
She is in overall good health- she has been spayed, is now current on vaccinations and deworming, and has been heartworm tested (negative) and started on prevention. It is very obvious that she has had a poor diet. Her teeth are not in great shape for her age, and they may worsen as she ages. She is also overweight from poor quality food (most likely canned and wet food, which has higher fat, and does not remove plaque from teeth like hard kibble does). She has been put on good quality dry food, and the weight will come off with exercise, as well.
She is house trained, and knows how to walk on a leash, but does still pull and we are working on this with her. She knows a few tricks (as shown in the photos), such as sit, speak, and dancing on her back feet. She was used to being the only dog, so she would not mind being the only pet in the home. She is looking for a lower-energy household, with daily walks and playtime.
She would love to find a person to cuddle up with, who will love her until the end of her life. She has many years left to show you how thankful she is for a second chance.
